Computer Classrooms for the Blind in Cuba
23 July, 2008
Havana, Cuba.- There are now seven specialized classrooms for teaching computer science to the blind and visually impaired in Cuba.
Luis Manuel Suárez, a computer analyst with the National Association for the Blind (ANCI), told ACN that these classrooms are located in the provinces of Habana City, Matanzas, Cienfuegos, Granma and Santiago de Cuba, as well as at ANCI’s Recreational and Cultural Center in the Cuban capital and at the National Center for the Rehabilitation of the Blind in Bejucal, on the outskirts of Havana.
Each classroom has five computers equipped with specialized readers, with which instructors now being trained will operate.
The aim is to supply these facilities in all of the island’s 14 provinces within the next two years, which will make it possible for the blind to access virtual libraries, courses and international meetings of their interest. (acn) |
