October 28, 2008
HAVANA, Cuba.- The Cuban film "El Benny," about the life and times of one of Cuba's most beloved singers, Benny More, will be screened in Kenya during the International Film Festival underway in Nairobi.
This year's festival is dedicated to cultural diversity in cinema. More than 250 films from across the world will be screened, along with seminars, workshops and student forums.
"El Beeny," directed by Jorge Luis Sanchez, is a portrait of the life of Beeny More that spans his whole career that peaked in the 1950s.
Benny More was gifted with an innate musicality and fluid tenor voice which he colored and phrased with great expressivity. He was a master of all the genres of popular Cuban music, including son montuno, mambo, guaracha, guajira, cha cha cha, Afro-Cuban, canción, guaguancó, and bolero. (acn) |
