Cuba Gives Priority to the Delivery of Enriched Food

HAVANA, CUBA.- Cuba gives priority to the delivery of essential nutrients enriched food to vulnerable groups such as pregnant women, children and elders, in order to cover basic diet needs in the country.
Alvaro Garcia, director of the Cuban Research Institute of the Food Industry, declared to ACN news agency that they are paying special attention to the adding of minerals as iron, and B complex vitamins, after the battering of hurricanes Ike and Gustav to the food industry.
He mentioned as examples the compotes and milk that children receive, and the milk supplements given to pregnant women, though he highlighted that other sectors will benefit as well, among them wheat flour.
Fields as the agriculture, affected in almost 30 percent of its areas, are working in the nutritional increase of its crops, with sowing of genetically enriched crops, like rice, a main part of Cuban diet. (acn)
